What began as a neighboring dispute ended with one of those “tunnels” neighbors in the unity of the other, according to Calgary Police.
It is a relative incident police call and a space violation.
“I’ll summarize it in a word: spooky,” said Insp. Keith Hurley.
Police says that a woman had had continuous problems with the neighbor who lived directly under her unit in Coach Hill Road Sw block
Hurley said there were one or two interactions between the neighbor and the police in recent months, where there was concern for his mental health.
The problems were enough that the woman left her residence for a period of time, somewhere between a few weeks and a month, said Hurley.
“I think that for their own sense of security and to obtain … space of the situation.”
When he came home, he had some difficulties to enter the unit because his door was closed from the inside, said Hurley.
“I don’t know the exact nature of that lock from the inside, but I suppose it is something that could only be manipulated by someone inside the residence.”
Once he entered, he discovered a strange scene and reported an entrance to the police on September 5, 2025.
“There was a fireplace inside the residence. It seemed that he had some holes that had been drilled, and then a wall that had been raped,” said Hurley.
Behind the chimney was a large hole in the floor that, according to the police, seemed to have been cut and seemed to connect to the suite below.
Police executed a search warrant and says they found the neighbor below “hide” in their unit.
They also found a ladder of their unit that extended to the hole behind the fireplace in the previous residence.
A 46 -year -old man is accused of a charge of breaking and entering with the intention of committing criminal harassment, mischief to a property of more than $ 5,000 and two positions of disobeying an order.
“At this time, we have no information to believe that the defendant did more than just entering the residence,” said Hurley.
