Quetta ATC extends BYC chief Mahrang Baloch’s physical remand by 15 more days: lawyer – Pakistan

An anti -terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta extended on Thursday the physical return of the head of the Balochjehti Committee (Byc) Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other organizers of the group at the request of the Police, according to his lawyer.

The lawyer Israr Baloch said Dawn.com: “BYC arrested leaders appeared before Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen de Quetta ATC -1, who extended their physical return in police custody for 15 more days at the request of the Police”, and they showed up that they presented themselves to Mahrang, they presented themselves well in court.

The Byc is a Baloch defense group that has been working against forced disappearances since 2018.

His boss Mahrang, along with other byc members, was arrested on March 22 for accusations of “attacking” the Civil Hospital of Quetta and “incite people to violence.” The arrests were made a day after the group faced a police repression while protested against alleged forced disappearances.

Mahrang was arrested under section 3 of the maintenance of public order (MPO), a law that allows authorities to arrest and detain the suspected persons to represent a threat to public order, for a period of 30 days (first period). Subsequently, his detention was extended for additional 30 days (second term) through a decision of the Baluchistan Interior Department in April.

After Byc leaders completed three months in June, the provincial government issued a fourth extension order, extending its imprisonment in another 15 days.

After their detention under the MPO, the cases were also registered against Mahrang and other byc leaders in different sections of the Anti -Terrorism Law and the Pakistan Criminal Code.

While in custody, Mahrang’s preventive detention and other byc leaders have spread several times.

Last month, an ATC in Karachi issued a non -internal order for Mahrang in a case related to sedition.
