The death toll due to rain -related incidents in Karachi rose to six on Wednesday, while more than 300 people were transferred to a safe place after strong monsoon showers increased Malir and Lyari rivers.
Lyari and Malir rivers serve as the main drains of Karachi’s storm, channeling rainwater through a Nullahs network towards the Arabic sea. Once natural currents are now strongly restricted by urban expansion, invasions and solid waste, turning many drains into open sewers. This blockage reduces its ability to transport rainwater, causing frequent urban floods during monzón’s downpours.
Three more people died in rain -related incidents in the metropolis today, raising the number of deaths from yesterday to six, while a person was missing, according to rescue services.
The rescuers of Edhi recovered the bodies of a man and a woman after a truck that took four people fell into the Konkar Nadi full of rain in the city of Gadap, said a statement issued by the Edhi Foundation. The deceased were identified as Nabu Gulab, 60 years old and Javed Shah, 45.
The rescue operation to find the other two missing people was underway, the statement added.
Separately, said police surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed Dawn.com That the body of an 18 -year -old man, identified as Ahmed Qadir, was taken to the Abasi Shaheed hospital from block C of northern Nazimabad after he died of an electric shock.
While a man was saved alive, the search for another was underway after the two disappeared in the Malir River, said a statement issued by Rescue 1122.
The rescued man was identified as Mustafa Ali Gul, while Farhan Akram was still missing. Mayor Vice President Salman Abdullah Murad and the attached commissioner of Malir were present at the site, added Rescue 1122.

The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, in a publication on X early today, said that until now, 318 people have been “rescued [and] Moved to Safe [places] around the [areas] Near Lyari Naddi and the teams are still present in the field. ”
“All the main arteries of the city, as well as the underground steps, are clear and open for traffic,” he said.
In the city of Saadi, the joint efforts of the 1122 rescue and the Pakistan army resulted in the rescue of 10 people, rescue spokesman 1122 said in a statement, Hassaanul Haseb Khan.
“Near Saima society, two men, three women and six children were transferred safely,” Khan told Dawn.com. “Eight people were trapped in Nashr Basti and Isa Nagri due to flood,” he added.
Schools will remain closed today
Meanwhile, the Government of Sindh ordered the closure of all educational institutions throughout the Karachi division after heavy monsoon rains and a more rain forecast.
“All educational institutions (public/private) will remain closed within the territorial jurisdiction of the Karachi division,” said a notification of the Karachi commissioner, dated September 9.
At 8 in the morning on Wednesday, Karachi had received 47.7 millimeters of rain, according to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD).
Yesterday three people lost their lives in the city in incidents related to the rain while the city experienced showers of one day, with two teenagers dying by electrocution and another drowning in the Malir River.
Last night, Sindh’s Prime Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah instructed the 1122 rescue teams and the administration of the district to work during the night and evacuate people trapped in rainwater, changing more than 350 citizens to a safe place. The overflowing water of the Malir River had entered residential areas and flooded Khamesso Jokhio Goth.
The PMD said that a deep depression, which had been causing rains in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, would gradually move towards Baluchistan and become a well -marked low pressure area.
Yesterday, the PMD predicted “intermittent rain/wind storm” today with maximum temperatures ranging from 27 to 29 degrees Celsius.
He added that minimal temperatures were expected to range between 25-27 ° C, with 80 to 95 percent moisture during the day.
Several hundred straw booths in the rural areas of the districts of Tharparkar and Dadu were dragged when the two districts had received heavy, moderate and light flashing spells of monsoon rainfall during the last six and four days, respectively.
