Advisor of the Prime Minister of Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan won the partial election of the Punjab Senate on Tuesday, according to unofficial results.
According to form 56 of the electoral results, the Saraullah government candidate won after obtaining 250 votes.
The survey was conducted at the Punjab Assembly. Of 363 members of the provincial legislature, 251 cast their vote and a vote was rejected.
Sanaullah and Salma ejaz of the opposition, wife of the disqualified candidate Ejaz Chaudhry, were in the fray.
However, the opposition PTI had boycuted the partial choice for the seat that was vacant due to the disqualification of the Chaudhry party.
The government alliance had a majority of 263 voters, while the opposition had the support of 100 voters. The voting process at the Punjab assembly continued uninterrupted from 9 am to 4 pm
Going to the media after his victory, Sanoullah said: “The PTI did not choose to boycott the democratic process, but decided to escape the elections.
His boycott of elections is a lack of confidence in their members. “
He also condemned the attack on Aleema Khan during his interaction with the media.
Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, and Punjab Minister of Information, Bokhari Azma, were also present at the Assembly to vote for Saraullah.
At the beginning of the month, according to the Wing of the PTI media, the announcement of boycotting the partial elections was made by the expected candidate Salma Ejaz. She made it clear that she will not play partial elections, since she does not want to be part of the “fraudulent elections.”
Twelve legislators of PTI in Punjab had been disqualified by the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) after their conviction in the cases of May 9, 2023. The disqualified legislators include eight National Assembly and four legislators of the Punjab Assembly. The Na-129, Lahore, was vacant for the death of MNA and former governor Mian Azhar.
The PTI chief pattern, Imran Khan, has prevented his party from challenging the voting, except in Na-129, where the son of Azhar, Hammad Azhar, is likely to be the candidate of the party.
“We will not present any candidate in the partial elections for the seats of our unjustly disqualified members. These individuals remained firm with PTI despite the extreme challenges. Therefore, the party will completely boycott these partial elections,” Khan said in a recent tweet.
Azma Bokhari said that the PTI had already fled from the Arena from partial elections. “The PTI cannot find candidates willing to face PML-N in the field,” he added.
