WestJet plane from Toronto makes ‘hard landing’ in St. Maarten

A Westjet plane that operated from Toronto made a “hard landing” at an airport in the Caribbean country in St. Maarten, the airline said on Sunday.

The airline said that all passengers and the crew were evacuated from the 2276 flight of Westjet after the plane arrived at Princess Juliana. The landing activated the slides of the plane and the emergency responders deployed with foam as caution.

Westjet said there were no reported injuries.

“At this time, we are waiting for confirmation about the exact nature of the incident,” Westjet said in a statement, noting that he is cooperating with local authorities.

“Our teams focus on supporting our guests and crew, ensuring that their safety and attention remain our highest priority.”

The airport said on social networks that there were 164 passengers on board. He said the plane did not catch fire and confirmed that there were no injuries, but said that three people were “taken for medical evaluation” as caution.
