A man from Western Pei who lost his home in a fire earlier this summer has miraculously won a raffle for a new cabin.
Daniel Drouin de Alberton recognizes the wild blow of luck, one that could not have arrived at a better time.
“It really changes life,” he said on Saturday. “It is such a strange coincidence that … he chooses me to so many people.
“And then all the circumstances that have happened with me and my family in the last month, and then you will win the house. You know, what are the probabilities?”
There were about 14,000 tickets sold for the draw. The winner of the Grand Prix could choose between the prefabricated cabin and $ 150,000.
Drouin is a musician and had to act on Friday night. The phone rang while being installed for a nap in the afternoon.
He had bought a $ 50 raffle ticket for Big Brothers, the raffle of the large sisters before the house of the house. He said it was reluctant at first, but his girlfriend encouraged him.
A video posted by Big Brothers Big Sisters captures the moment when Myron Yates, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Eduardo Island, called Drouin to let him know what he won.
Drug -a -time asked if this was a practical joke. “It is not, seriously,” Yates said. “We wouldn’t do that to you.”
Drouin said he was in shock.
“I thought it could have been a joke call … but it wasn’t. After he gave me all the details, he returned the call just to make sure I understood that it was not a joke,” he said.
The cabin does not come with a property. Drog is not still sure where he will put it.
He said he has been living apart from his two children. He has been living with friends. One of his children is with a friend and another with grandparents. He said the cabin gives the family the opportunity to meet.
They were around 2 in the morning on a dark July night when Drugin learned that his house was on fire. It was his son who called to give the news.
“[He] He called the fire department and woke up everyone and took everyone out of the house, “Drouin said.
He said his house will have to be demolished.
He said he plans to go to Charlottetown on Monday to see his new cabin and take care of some documents.
“It means a new start, I mean, yes, and a new beginning for children too, and everyone will be together again,” he said.
