The Democratic representative for a long time ago, Jerry Nadler, a liberal lion and the oldest member of New York Congress, will not seek re -election.
Nadler represents a significant strip of the Manhattan district and had served as president and classification member of the powerful Judicial Committee of the Chamber, which put it in the center of three presidential policies.
By revealing his plans to New York Times, Nadler admitted that his party and the country were in the midst of a generational change, and it was time for him to accept that reality.
He argued what happened to former President Joe Biden, who gave up the calls of his party to set aside in the last elections after a disastrous debate performance raised questions about his mental sharpness.
“Seeing Biden really said something about the need for a generational change at the party, and I think I want to respect that,” Nadler told Times.
Despite his age, Nadler was forced to face a solid primary challenge of a potentially wide field of younger and more progressive challengers.
Nadler’s influence on Washington was already decreasing. He was withdrawn from his hanger as the main Democrat in the Judicial Committee of the Chamber at the beginning of this Congress, a sign that the party was pressing for the younger leadership.
Nadler’s seat is one of the most blue in the country, so it will probably remain in Democratic hands in the mid -period elections of 2026.
NBC has communicated with Nadler’s campaign to comment.
