Three people, including a child and a woman in a wheelchair, were injured on Monday when a Minivan drove through the streets closed for an American native festival in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The city spokeswoman Michelle Moyer said people were hospitalized in unknown conditions. The incident occurred on the last day of an annual three -day celebration, Kipona Festival, which highlights the American native roots of the region.
“A woman already turned through barriers that block traffic” for the festival, Moyer said in a statement. “He hit a woman in a wheelchair and a child. One of our public works employees was also injured trying to stop the woman.”
Harrisburg’s NBC Wgal affiliate reported that the vehicle was per six blocks before stopping. According to a map of the event, he said it happened along Front Street, where food trucks, vendors and carnival games were established.
The driver was arrested, said Moyer.
The images of the sequelae of the incident verified by NBC News show a damaged minivan that stopped in a cordoned block for the cabins that are part of the celebration.
It was not clear immediately why the truck drove to the closed street.
The city said it was the 109th Kipona Annual Festival.
A website of the Kipona Festival describes the event: “This annual tradition brings together the American native communities of several tribes to celebrate and show their cultures through dance, music, narration of stories, crafts and food.”
The festival organizers did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
