Karachi: As the Guddu Barge will receive tickets from 700,000 to 800,000 CUSECs next week, the Sindh government fears the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people living in areas along the banks of the Indo River due to high flood.
A meeting, chaired by Sindh’s prime minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, to review the situation of floods in the province, was informed by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the irrigation department that high floods were expected that affects the flood of Guddu between September 3 and 4, potentially displacing more than 52,000 families.
The CM instructed the PDMA and district administrations that will be prepared to establish more than 500 camps along the river embankments to protect the affected communities and cattle. “In the case of a large flood wave, not a single life, human or animal, it must be lost,” he emphasized.
He also directed the deployment of more than 30,000 rescue-122 and 178 ships, 72 in the northern and 106 districts in the southern districts, to respond to possible emergencies and support relocation efforts.

A press release said that the meeting at CM CM was served among others by provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon and Makhdoom Mahboob Zaman, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, the general director of the PDMA, Salman Shah, and others, while commissioners and excavations participated in the meeting through a link.
In view of the probable displacement of people, the main minister ordered boats in six vulnerable areas in Sukkur, four each in Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu, and three vulnerable areas in Shaheed Benazirabad.
The CM was informed that the Pakistan Navy had maintained 26 ships waiting to support aid operations.
As for the PDMA stock position, they told him that the wide relief supplies, including mosquito networks, blankets, first aid kits, kitchen games, mattresses, plastic carpets, portable bathrooms, bedrooms, jerry cans, sleeping mats, tents, tents, water pumps and generators were available For implementation.
Later, the main minister, taking into account the vulnerability of the situation, decided to visit Guddu Barge and Sukkur Barge to evaluate the preparation and conducted an aerial survey of the Indo vulnerable embankment.

Separately, Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government has taken comprehensive emergency measures at all levels to deal with the possible flood situation.
He said that water levels in Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri Barrages are being continuously monitored and that the situation was currently under control, but alternative plans were established to respond to any emergency, a press release said.
