Attorney General Pam Bondi dismissed on Friday an employee of the Department of Justice accused of turning to the members of the National Guard deployed in Washington DC as part of President Donald Trump’s effort to mitigate the crime in the city, confirmed an official of the Department of Justice.
According to a memorandum sent by Bondi, whose veracity was confirmed by the Department of Justice, the employee, Elizabeth Baxter, worked as a legal assistant specialist in the environment and natural resources division of the department.
The New York Post was the first to inform Baxter’s termination.
“Based on your inappropriate conduct towards the members of the National Guard service, your employment with the Department of Justice ends, and you are eliminated from the federal service with immediate validity,” Bondi wrote in the Memorandum, as confirmed by the Department of Justice.
A justice department official told NBC News that Baxter was seen and heard using the vulgar gesture and shouts to protect members on multiple occasions.
Incidents supposedly occurred several times during the last two weeks, although NBC News has not independently confirmed the accusations.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice, Gates McGavick, praised the termination on Friday, writing in an X: “If the police do not support, [Attorney General Pam Bondi’s] The Department of Justice may not be a good adjustment. “
The termination marks the second time this month, Bondi has finished an employee of the Department of Justice for Conduct, is considered inappropriate for the law personnel.
Weeks ago, Bondi fired a legal assistant of the department after they caught him by the Chamber by launching a sandwich to a customs agent and border protection outside a popular area of nightlife in DC who wrote at that time: “He will not work in this administration by not respecting our government and the application of the law.”
Initially, Bondi sought to obtain charges for serious crimes against that employee, Sean Dunn, but a large jury refused to return an accusation, a sign that local residents did not identify the probable cause to support that position. The United States District Prosecutor Jeanine Pirro accused Dunn of assault for minor crime.
Trump has constantly promoted his effort to mitigate the crime in DC, which was already decreasing, as incredibly successful, pointing out more decreases this month in acts such as car theft. But the effort has faced increasing critications of democratic legislators and the protest of DC residents, many of whom have characterized Trump’s operation as an exaggerated, a tactic of fear and racially motivated.
