Schools close, some highways in poor shape after overnight snow in N.B.

New Brunswick is still under a weather warning from Environment Canada as of Monday morning.

Southwest and northeast New Brunswick could still expect up to 25 centimeters of snow before it finishes falling Monday morning.

Southeastern New Brunswick was upgraded to a winter storm warning, meaning it could see an additional 10 centimeters as well as near-zero visibility due to the combination of fresh snow and strong winds, the warning says.

Some northern regions will not see the same level of snowfall, but still have warnings for extreme cold. Campbellton and the eastern part of Restigouche County can expect temperatures to drop as low as -40 Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Several roads, according to the province’s 511, are showing snowy conditions, and travel is not recommended on some key routes.

Highway 95 from the US border to Woodstock and Highway 2 from Woodstock to Meductic show that traveling in poor visibility is not recommended.

Travel on most of Highway 2 from Fredericton to Moncton is also not recommended.

The same goes for Highway 1 from the Blacks Harbor and Grand Manan exit to the Musquash exit, with an additional warning for poor visibility.

School cancellations

The weather conditions have caused the closure of several schools throughout the province.

Western Anglophone schools in zones 3 through 9 are closed and all ASD-W educational centers will delay opening until 11 a.m.
All Anglophone schools in the south are closed.
All Anglophone schools in the east are closed.
In the Anglophone North district, Miramichi, Rexton and Bathurst schools are closed.
All French-speaking schools in the south are closed.
Francophone schools in the North East are closed, except for those in Dalhouse, Campbellton and Balmoral.
The University of New Brunswick, St. Thomas University and Mount Allison University will delay opening until noon.
The Université de Moncton will delay opening until noon.
Classes at the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick are affected by the storm, with some campuses closed for the day and remote learning taking over, while other campuses may reopen later in the day.
The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design has closed its campus and virtual classes continue as normal.
The campuses of Saint Andrews, Woodstock and Fredericton New Brunswick Community College are closed during the day. The Miramichi, Saint John and Moncton campuses will be open late.
