European nuclear research body reviews Pakistan’s progress in science and technology during visit – Pakistan

A high -level delegation of the European Nuclear Research Organization (CERN) reviewed the country’s progress during a visit from August 24 to 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) said on Friday.

The CERN, one of the largest and most respected centers for scientific research in the world, was established in 1954 on the “Science for Peace” principle, according to its website. Pakistan became the associated member of the CERN on July 31, 2015, contributing to the projects of the center as a “significant partner.” The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is the main agency for the collaboration of Pak-Cern.

“During the visit, a team of five main experts from CERN met with the president of the PAEC and toured several science and technology institutions,” said an FO statement.

“The purpose of these visits was to evaluate Pakistan’s progress in the field of science and technology.”

Institutions include the National Center for Physics, Heavy Mechanical Complex-3, Institute of Engineering of Pakistan and Applied Sciences, Pakistan Nuclear Science and Technology Institute, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, National Laser and Optronic Institute and other advanced facilities, the declaration is read.

“Through its associated membership, Pakistan has gained significant benefits: advance to the borders of scientific knowledge, promote technological development and train a new generation of scientists and engineers,” he said.

In 2022, a CERN working group held meetings with different entities in Pakistan to review the associated membership.

Pakistan has obtained numerous benefits of membership, as a greater number of engineering contracts to support CERN programs, which are beneficial for the country’s industrial sector, the development of human resources and the exchange of techniques and technology in key areas, in addition to numerous intellectual benefits.
