Pakistan agrees to consider ‘diplomatic relations’ with Armenia – Pakistan

The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, said on Friday that Pakistan agreed to consider diplomatic relations with Armenia.

Pakistan and Armenia do not have formal diplomatic relations so far. The relationship is characterized by a regional geopolitical rivalry, with Pakistan supporting Azerbaiyan against Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabak conflict, according to the press information department.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the peace efforts of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, after his role in the negotiation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement.

“Pakistan welcomes the historic peace agreement signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia at the White House Summit under the auspices of US President Donald J Trump,” the prime minister wrote in a statement on X.

He congratulated both countries for “drawing a course for a peaceful future for their region,” stating: “Pakistan has always been with the fraternal nation of Azerbaijan and we are with them in this proud moment in their history.”
