1 dead, another arrested after police resolve shooting incident that led to neighbourhood lockdown

A man searched in an order in Canada was found dead inside a Calgary house in the neighborhood of northwest Rosedale after the police said he shot the officers who tried to make an arrest.

The incident had caused a refuge order in the place, which has since risen, for a section of Crescent Road and the surroundings after the shots sounded on Thursday afternoon.

Police say that the suspect left his car in the 500 block of Crescent Road NW around 3:40 pm, and shot a house in the area. The deputy director of the Calgary Police Service, Cliff O’Brien, said there were people inside the house that the suspect shot, but those residents protected themselves and were not injured.

He and a woman who was with him, then entered a different nearby house.

When a police tactical unit responded, O’Brien said the officers were shot from inside the house where the suspect had entered, with bullets hitting the armored vehicle in which the officers were.

Just after 5 in the afternoon, the police said they were dealing with a suspect with a gun, adding that the threat was contained in a home in the neighborhood. It was at this time, the police explained later that the woman who had also entered the residence was delivered to the police.

Police said they confirmed that the man was dead inside the house around 7:10 pm, and reported that there are no other injuries resulting from the incident.

“We have someone who shoots in a house with innocent people and then shoots the police,” O’Brien said. “So the scope is … whatever necessary to ensure that our community was sure and this person was arrested as quickly as possible. In this case, the person was deceased within the residence.”

O’Brien said there seems to be no connection between the suspect and the house in which he shot or the house he entered, but that police will be investigating to confirm those details.

The situation was resolved around 8 pm, police said.

“A very dangerous situation,” says the police

“We had a very dangerous situation for our community. Thanks to the community for its cooperation,” O’Brien told Media on Thursday night.

The area is known for its spectacular views of the Calgary horizon, it often sees many people who use the system on the other hand on the street from many multimillion -dollar houses.

“When you take a look at pedestrian trafficking, you look at people on bicycles, you look at people in cars that led through that point of crisis before the police could get there, we are lucky that no one else hurts,” O’Brien said.

“So we are lucky that the innocent people who were in that residence to which he shot himself did not hurt.”

O’Brien added that the police had been looking for the suspect for weeks.

Calgary police said around 8 PM that what he described as a shooting incident at Crescent Heights Neibourity was resolved and the refuge order was lifted in the place.

During the incident, Crescent Road in the west direction was closed from Second Street Nw Crescent Park in the Crescent Heights neighborhood was also closed. Police drones were also active, flying in the area.

Residents who live in the area who could not access their homes had been sent to Crescent Heights High School until the incident was resolved.

Crescent Heights High School also sent a note to the parents on Thursday saying that there were students there for athletic tests when the police asked everyone to enter school.

The students who were outside were immediately brought to the gym, said the note. In addition, he explained that the police then determined that there was no threat to school, students were already allowed to go home.

The Alberta Serious Incidents Response Team has had the task of reviewing the file, while the police will supervise the investigation into the incident.
