A key figure is sought in the “convoy of freedom” of 2022 that seeks asylum in the United States in a reference order throughout Canada after he did not appear before the court in Ottawa to face criminal charges for his role in the protest.
James Bauder, who left Canada this summer, faces charges that include mischief and intimidation. He states that he is being politically persecuted and said he has raised almost $ 13,000 online to cover his legal fees.
Earlier this week, Bauder lost an appointment in the Superior Court in Ottawa, which led a judge to order his arrest.
During the Public Commission that investigates the Federal Government’s decision to invoke the Emergency Law to end the protest of 2022, Bauder said he helped lead a smaller convoy to Ottawa in 2021 to protest public health rules.
During that trip, he delivered a “Memorandum of Understanding” (Mou) to the Senate and the Governor General. He demanded the cancellation of Covid-19 measures and for the then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who resigned from “committing betrayal and crimes against humanity.”
Bauder soon communicated in line with other convoys leaders, including Pat King, Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, and in January 2022 they were heading to Ottawa.
Argument of ‘political persecution’ rejected
Bauder, a resident of Calgary before fleeing to the United States, has argued that he is a victim of “political persecution” and tried to move from Ottawa to Brockville or North Bay, Ontario.
“I think I will not receive a right trial in Ottawa because I participated in a very high profile, highly politicized and aimed at the Federal Government in Ottawa,” he said during an audience of February 2023, and added that the city is full of government employees that “they are not my colleagues.”
That offer was rejected when a judge of the Superior Court told Bauder that he had no basis and is reduced to his concern that most Ottawa residents do not share their political views. “
The crown argues that there has been no political persecution in the case of Bauder, and the judge who supervises the matter has been inflexible in which the Superior Court is impartial.

Bauder is also appointed in a collective claim of Ottawa residents who are looking for millions in damage to the protest of 2022 and the three -week acquisition of the city center.
Since he has been in the United States, Bauder appeared at events and conducted interviews with Donald Trump affiliates, including the influencers of Maga, Roger Stone and Wayne Allyn Root, who promised to personally deliver Bauder Asylum to the President.
Bauder’s trial is scheduled for three weeks in November and December. Other Key convoy protest figures, including Tamara Lich, Chris Barber and Pat King, have been convicted for their papers in the protest of 2022.
