The main suspect in the torture of two brothers by some street vendors in Raiwind has been arrested and delivered to the Crime Control Department (CCD), his father’s lawyer said on Tuesday.
The incident went viral on social networks when a video clip showed some street vendors by subjecting both brothers to severe torture on a road in the Raiwind area a few days ago. They were lying in a pool of blood, and the alleged attackers, holding clubs in their hands, were seen torturing them in a public place with many spectators and passers -standing. A brother died of severe brands of torture in the place, while the other succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.
A first information report (FIR) of the incident was presented on the complaint of the victims’ father on August 22 at the Raiwind city police station under sections 147 (punishment for disturbances), 149 (illegal assembly) and 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Criminal Code.
He said the incident occurred on August 21 at 5:45 pm when the brothers returned home and stopped to buy some fruit. “Due to a dispute about money, the owner of the fruit cart … and his brother … began to hit my children and called other people,” said the plaintiff.
He said he managed to free his children after reaching the scene, accompanied by other people, and added that the suspects fled while they pronounced threats. The plaintiff urged action against the suspects.
The father’s lawyer, lawyer Ahmed Ali Awan, said Dawn.com Today: “The main suspect has been delivered to CCD. He was arrested by the police today.”
He added that the second suspect was still in police custody and the raids were underway to stop the other suspects.
In June, Karachi’s police arrested a main suspect along with his two employees for charges of hitting a citizen after a video of the incident went viral on social networks, which led the authorities to realize him.
