A man who avoided the Canadian authorities for more than nine months after being accused of driving a semi -river truck through a high signal, causing an accident that killed a mother and daughter of Manitoba, was arrested at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Thursday.
Navjeet Singh, 25, had been sought since November for two dangerous operation positions of a motorized vehicle that causes death and a charge of obstructing a police officer.
The Brampton man, Ontario, was arrested at Pearson’s International Airport on Thursday morning by Peel Regional Police officers and the Canada Border Services Agency after arriving in Canada on a flight from Ethiopian Airlines, said Manitoba RCMP in a press release on Friday.
Mounties alleges that Singh led a semi through a stop sign on the 201 highway and hit a SUV that travels south near the city of Altona, about 90 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg, on November 15.
The SUV driver, Sara Unger, 35, from the Rural Municipality of Renania, was declared dead on the scene. His daughter Alexa, 8, the only passenger in the vehicle, was transferred by plane to the hospital but died because of her wounds.
“From the CBSA to peeling the Regional Police and the application of the application of carriers of the Manitoba engine, its help was vital,” CPL of Pembina Valley RCMP. Jamie Sokolosky said in a press release on Friday.
“This has been an extremely difficult time for the family. We thank all those who express their concerns and comments.”
RCMP said previously that Singh was taken to the hospital after the accident, where he was treated for injuries and released.
The authorities tried to locate Singh in Winnipeg, but they were not successful, and an arrest warrant throughout the Canada was broadcast on November 21.
Singh remains in custody and will be escorted to Manitoba in the next few days, said RCMP on Friday.
