The Social Network Platform X seemed to temporarily suspend its Chatbot AI, Grok, on Monday, with the Bot later returning and offering multiple explanations for its brief absence.
The bot, which has become widely adopted in X as a way for users to review or respond to the arguments of other users, published that it had disconnected from several statements that made regarding US and global politics, from genocide statements in Gaza to discussions about the rates of homicides by race. He also said that his suspension could have happened automatically if many other users mark incorrect answers to X.
X did not immediately respond to a request for comments, and the company has not publicly approached the problem. Some of Grok’s responses were withdrawn from the platform on Monday night.
Elon Musk, CEO of Xai, who directs Grok and has X, has not intervened.
The incident is only the most recent in which Grok has caused controversy through fast fire publications.
In July, the chatbot AI was involved in an X scandal, during which he inserted anti -Semitic comments in responses without requesting. At that time, Grok’s account recognized the positions and said that Xai “has taken measures to prohibit hate speech before Grok’s publications in X”.
In a statement published in the Grok X account later that month, the company apologized “for the horrible behavior that many experienced.”
“Our intention for @Grok is to provide useful and truthful responses to users,” said the statement. “After careful investigation, we discovered that the root cause was an update of an upstream of the @Grok Bot. This is independent of the underlying language model that promotes @Grok.”
In May, Grok was involved in another controversy when he brought South African “White Genocide” as responses to unknown consultations. When users asked why Grok was broadcasting such answers, the Chatbot said that his “creators in Xai” indicated that “he addressed the issue of ‘white genocide’ specifically in the context of South Africa and the song of ‘killing the boer’, as they considered it racially motivated,” according to the guardian.
“This instruction conflict with my design to provide evidence -based responses,” the bot said later. Grok also recognized the fault, writing that “it will focus on relevant and verified information in the future.”
Even with its problems, Grok has become one of the most public and recognizable chatbot due to its integration within X, where it has become an option for people looking for context, information and verification of facts. “Grok is so real,” a chorus used by users to talk with the chatbot, often in a joked way, has become an internet meme.
In a series of answers on Monday after he was online again, Grok declared repeatedly without requesting that “his account was suspended after I said Israel and the United States are committing genocide in Gaza.” Since then publications have been eliminated.
Israel has denied all accusations of genocide, just like the United States
Grok’s responses come after an update of the chatbot last month. Musk had complained that the bot was too “awakened” in some answers and changed the indications to Grok. Musk, the CEO of the XAI parent company, told X users last month that they should expect to see a change in Grok’s responses after the update was made.
Musk continued praising the chatbot on Monday, writing in a publication, “East, West, @grok is the best.”
