Cairo-the Paramilitary Fast Support forces of Sudan launched attacks on Monday in a displacement camp affected by the famine outside El-Fafasher, the capital of the province of North Darfur, killing 40 people, local rights groups said.
The group of emergency response rooms that works in the ABU Shouk displacement camp said in a Facebook statement that the RSF, which is at war with the Sudanese army, assaulted parts of the camp aimed at citizens within their homes. The community activist group, which provides assistance throughout Sudan, said that at least 19 people were also injured.
The ABU Shouk displacement camp outside El-Fafasher, which houses around 450,000 displaced people, has been repeatedly attacked in the course of the war. The Sudanese army has control over El-Fasher despite the frequent strikes by the RSF.
Meanwhile, the resistance committees in El-Fafasher confirmed the attacks, saying on Facebook that the scene “reflected the scope of the horrible violations committed against innocent and helpless people.” Resistance committees are a group of local citizens of the community that includes human rights activists.
The Civil War in Sudan broke out in April 2023 in the capital, Jartum before extending throughout the country after tensions over low heat between the RSF and the Army. The fight has killed more than 40,000 people, displaced up to 12 million and took many to the edge of the famine. The Abu Shouk camp is one of the two camps with strong famine conditions, according to humanitarians.
The Sudanese army said he faced the RSF fighters on Monday at El-Fafasher, starting around 6 am and ending in the afternoon. He said he defeated the paramilitary group, according to his publications on social networks.
“Our forces repelled a large -scale attack of several axes by the terrorist militia and inflicted strong losses to the enemy in lives and equipment, since more than 16 combat vehicles were destroyed and burned and 34 vehicles, including armored cars, were captured,” said the army in a statement.
The fight on the RSF Telegram channel was not mentioned.
The governor of Darfur, Mini Arko Minawi, said on Facebook that El-Fafasher “triumphed over those who betrayed his land” in an apparent reference to the RSF in Monday’s fight.
Meanwhile, in the province of Kordofan del Norte, the RSF has been accused of displacing more than 3,000 families of 66 villages due to the fight since the beginning of August, according to the Doctors Network of Sudan. The group also said that the RSF looted the properties of those people and stole their money and cattle. The displaced ends up arriving in the provinces of Jardtum and White Nile last week.
