Tragically Hip offers helping hand to Canada women’s rugby team fundraising campaign

The hip is tragically doing everything possible to help support the Canadian women’s rugby team before this month’s World Cup in England.

The iconic Canadian band is selling a limited edition shirt with profits to support the second -class Canadian women.

“This team is the incarnation of what it means to be Canadian: passionate, humble and resistant,” the band said in a statement. “This association is about obtaining all Canada behind one of the most inspiring stories in this country. It is raising a team and a nation on the world stage, encouraging our women as they seek to achieve their dreams.”

The shirt, which is sold for $ 45, is black with the hip, above the slogan ‘since 1984’, added to the Shield Rugby Canada Red logo.

“This shirt is about the belief in our team and the pride of supporting Canada,” said Rugby Canada CEO, Nathan Bombys. “Having the legendary band and clearly Canadian hip that publicly supports our team talks a lot about the pride that this group of rugby players has inspired throughout the country.”

Canadian women operate with a much smaller budget than the best classified England, as well as No. 3 of New Zealand and France No. 4. To that end, Rugby Canada launched its fundraising campaign “Mission: Win Win Rugby World Cup” in March with the aim of raising $ 1 million. He says that he has reached more than 88 percent of that goal, the money that is being used to support the team in its tournament preparation.

Canadian women play their last World Cup adjustment match on Saturday against Ireland in Belfast in Belfast.

Canada opens the B Play Fiji Group on August 23 in York before facing No. 9 Wales on August 30 in Manchester and No. 8 Scotland on September 6 in Exeter in the expanded tournament of 16 teams.

Canadian women finished fourth in the last World Cup. His best performance in the tournament was runner -up for the host of France in 2014.
