Brussels – NATO has begun to coordinate regular deliveries of large weapons packages to Ukraine after the Netherlands said they would provide air defense equipment, ammunition and other military aid worth 500 million euros ($ 578 million).
Sweden also announced Tuesday that it would contribute with $ 275 million to a joint effort along with its Nordic Denmark and Norway neighbors to provide air defenses worth $ 500 million, anti -tank weapons, ammunition and spare parts.
Two team deliveries are expected, mostly bought in the United States, this month, although the Nordic package is expected to arrive in September. The team is supplied based on the priority needs of Ukraine on the battlefield. NATO’s allies then locate weapons and ammunition and send them.
“The packages will prepare quickly and broadcast regularly,” said NATO on Monday.
Air defense systems are the biggest need. The United Nations has said that the relentless blow of urban areas of Russia behind the front line has killed more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians.
The largest army in Russia is also slow but expensive along the 620 mile front line. Currently, it is freeing an operation to carry the eastern city of Pokrovsk, a logistics center whose fall could allow Ukraine to be deepened.
European and Canada allies are buying most of the equipment they plan to send from the United States, which has greater stock of military material, as well as more effective weapons. The Trump administration is not giving weapons to Ukraine.
The new deliveries will come on other promises of military teams.
The Kiel Institute, which tracks support for Ukraine, estimates that as of June, European countries had provided 72 billion euros ($ 83 billion) in military aid since the beginning of the large -scale invasion of Russia in February 2022, compared to $ 65 billion in US help.
Dutch defense minister Ruben Brekelmans said that “American air defense systems and ammunition, in particular, are crucial for Ukraine to defend himself.” By announcing deliveries on Monday, he said that Russia’s attacks are “pure terror, aimed at breaking Ukraine.”

He said that deliveries are coming “at a time when Russia is trying to expand their attacks. This will definitely help protect the life of our people!”
Germany said Friday that he will deliver two more Patriot Air Defense systems to Ukraine in the next few days. He agreed to move after ensuring the guarantees that the United States will prioritize the delivery of new patriots to Germany to fill their actions. These weapons systems are only manufactured in the US.
As an organization, NATO only provides non -lethal assistance to Ukraine, such as uniforms, tents, medical supplies and logistical support. The 32 -nations military alliance has mainly tried to protect the NATO territory from the possible Russian attack and avoid being dragged into a war against nuclear energy.
But his support role has expanded since the president of the United States, Donald Trump, assumed the position in January, even when his administration insists that European allies must now take care of their own security and that of their neighbor devastated by war. Trump has not promised public weapons or economic support for Ukraine.
Trump said on July 28 that the United States “will now send military teams and other teams to NATO, and that they will do what they want, but I suppose it is mostly working with Ukraine.”
