Two men were shot dead and three others were injured in an alleged attack directed in Gulistan-I-Johar on Monday night, according to the police.
GULSHAN Police Superintendent (SP) Ahmed Iqbal Memon said Dawn.com That five people were fired and wounded by unidentified gunmen in Pehlwan Goth, near the Sindh-Balochistan housing society.
“The injured were taken to a nearby private hospital, where two of them were declared dead,” said Memon, added that the exact reason was being determined.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Sharqi police station said that the victims were sitting in a battery store at the time of the incident.
“The initial information suggests that two motorcyclists arrived at the store and opened fire,” said the statement. “There are reports about the presence of a car on the scene, but these are being confirmed.”
The statement added that forensic evidence of the crime scene has been collected, including bullet covers.
The East Senior Police Superintendent, Dr. Farrukh Raza, said in a statement that the police were receiving “different information” about the possible reasons for the area incident.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for a religious-political holiday, said Syed Ali Ahmed Zaidi Dawn.com That the shooting was an objective murder, since one of the victims was the son of a prayer leader in the town.
“One of the deceased … is the son of Maulana Rajab Ali Bangash, who is the prayer leader of a mosque in the area,” said Zaidi. “All the victims were Ahle Tashi, who originally came from Gilgit-Baltistan,” he added.
One of the party leaders, Allama Sadiq Jafri, condemned the incident in a statement, saying: “We demand the immediate arrest of the suspects involved in this incident. The increase in the objective murders puts an interrogation sign on the agencies of application of the law.”
He added: “The network of sectarian extremists is becoming active again.”
Earlier this week, a senior lawyer was shot dead while his son was injured in an alleged attack directed in the Karachi Defense Housing Authority.
The South Deputy Inspector (DIG) Syed Asad Raza told Dawn.com that the shot took place after a funeral prayer in a mosque in phase 6 of DHA.
