The protesters who demonstrated against anti -terrorist operations in the province were fired in the Mohmand Ghoz area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tirah Valley, a provincial government official said to Dawn.com.
Earlier this week, two children were killed by a mortar shell in Raghzai village in the Tanques District. After the incident, the afflicted families and residents of the area organized a protest when blocking the Waziristán Tank-South road, demanding immediate identification and action against those responsible.
According to Sohail Afridi, special communications and works assistant, there was an incident a day before a mortar hit a house and killed a girl, which led local residents to protest in front of the border body complex (FC) today.

Sohail added that there were contradictory reports about who opened fire against the protesters.

In a statement from his office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the dismissal for Khawarij and issued instructions to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

After the incident, a jirga was convened between civil and military officers, local elders and the commander of the Brigadier Muhammad Qasim security forces, according to a position on social networks by Jamiat Ulema-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
The Jirga condemned the incident in strong terms, emphasizing that the peaceful protest is a constitutional and democratic right and that no security force has the right to shoot against protesters.
According to the post, the commander declared that an investigation will be launched to the incident and strict action against those responsible will be taken. He added that the person behind yesterday’s attack has been identified and the action against him is underway.
“Drones attacks and mortar shells will no longer hit innocent and oppressed people and their homes,” said the commander. “All closed roads will open and no one will stop at the Tirah check post.”
In addition, the Jirga agreed that the security forces would pay RS1.5 million for each person killed in the incident, and the injured received treatment at the FC hospital in Shah Kas free. The injured will also receive RS2.5m each.
“If any injured person dies, they will also be given a martyr package,” the statement added, describing that these packages would be distributed by the civil administration.
Jirgas will start next week: Gandapur
KP’s Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed a deep pain for the incident and described a compensation scheme and a series of Jirgas in a statement from his press secretary.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government expresses a deep sadness and pain for the Tirah incident and expresses full sympathy with the deceased and wounded,” Gandapur said.
“A Jirga has been called composed of tribal elders and public representatives in Peshawar to listen to local feelings and concerns,” the statement added. “A series of tribal elder jirgas will begin next week at the division level and then provincial.”
The CM added that the administrations and institutions of the district received instructions to strengthen public relations and maintain order, as well as announce a package of RS10M for those killed in the incident, as well as RS2.5m for the injured.
