Jim Clancy, who made his debut in the big leagues during the 1977 expansion season of the Toronto Blue Jays and spent 12 seasons with the club as a key member of his initial rotation, died at age 69.
The tiles confirmed Clancy’s death in a social media post on Monday. There was no cause of death.
Clancy was selected by the Blue Jays Sixth in general in the MLB Expansion Draft of 1976 and made its debut in the Major Leagues on July 26, 1977, against the Texas Rangers in the Toronto exhibition stadium. He understood five races won in two entries in a 14-0 defeat.
After going 4-9 in the year of expansion of Toronto, Clancy played his first full season in 1978, publishing a respectable 10-12 record in a team that ended in the American League in the American League with 59-102.
Clancy, together with star pitcher Dave Stieb, provided the basis of the initial rotation of the tiles as the team became increasingly competitive. It was the opener of the opening of Toronto Day in 1981 and 1984.
The six-feet and 220 pound clancy had a 16-14 record with an average of 3.71 for the first time and 139 strikeouts in its 1982 stars season when the tiles ended out the last place in the EAST of the American League for the first time with a 78-84 record.
It was 9-6 with an effectiveness of 3.78 in 1985 when the Jays won the division for the first time before falling into seven games against Kansas City’s reais in the Al Al Series of Al.
