A Quebec Mountie is under criminal investigation for allegedly making online comments during its deployment at the G7 summit last month, confirms the RCMP.
Montréal’s Journal first reported the news and said that the alleged comments on the president of the United States, Donald Trump, were made.
The French newspaper, citing Fuentes, also said that the officer is accused of filtering information about Trump’s movements, which would constitute a security violation and could have compromised the president’s security.
CBC News has not independently confirmed those details.
A RCMP spokesman did not comment on the details of the case, including the officer’s name, but told CBC News that they are subject to criminal investigation and a review of the internal code of conduct.
“Depending on the result of the review of the evidence, criminal charges can be presented,” said CPL. Ique gasse.
“The RCMP takes all the threats that can seriously affect the sense of security. Violent language or behavior is not tolerated.”
Canada was the host of the G7 in Kananaskis, high., Marking one of the largest national security operations in the history of Canada.
The event saw that the RCMP, together with other police forces and the Canadian Armed Forces, commit a significant amount of resources to ensure the neighborhood, including the configuration of exclusion zones.
Before the event, the RCMP was planning a myriad of possible threats and was “aware” that Trump was the goal of murder attempts last year during the presidential campaign.
