Operai, Google de Alphabet, Anthropic and the artificial intelligence firm of Elon Musk XAI have won contracts of up to $ 200 million each, aimed at increasing the adoption of advanced abilities of AI in the United States Department of Defense (DOD), the government agency said Monday.
The contracts will allow the Defense Department to develop the workflows of the agent and use them to address the critical challenges of national security, said the main office of digital and artificial intelligence of the department.
“AI’s adoption is transforming the [DoD’s] Ability to support our warriors and maintain a strategic advantage over our adversaries, ”said the Doug Matty officer.
The United States government agencies have been expanding their use of AI, driven by a White House order in April that promotes adoption. President Donald Trump has also moved to soften the technology regulations by revoking an executive order of the 2023 Biden era, which sought to reduce the risks of AI through mandatory data disseminations.
Separately, on Monday, XAI announced a set of products called “Grok for Government”, making its advanced AI models, including its latest Grok 4 badge, available for federal, local, state and national security customers.
The Pentagon announced last month that Operai received a $ 200 million contract, saying that the Chatgpt manufacturer “would develop Prototype AI Frontier capabilities to address critical national security challenges both in war domains and in the company.”
The contracts announced on Monday deepen the ties between the companies that lead the Race of AI and the operations of the United States government, while addressing concerns about the need for competitive contracts for the use of AI in federal agencies.
In May, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren had urged Dod to guarantee the competitive hiring of AI at a time when Musk’s Grok’s chatbot was gaining ground in the federal government.
