Nunavut’s Prime Minister PJ Akeogok is sharing his sympathies with the community of Pond Inlet, Nunavut, after three recent deaths.
“Like many Nunavummiut, I am disconsolate by the tragic events that have shaken their community,” Akeagok said in a statement on Saturday.
The coroner of the territory said Friday that his office is investigating deaths, but that it would be inappropriate to share details at this time and that the report would become public once completed.
Akeogok said the Nunavut government has mobilized all the resources available for those affected.
Nunavut’s government spokesman, Casey Lessard, said in an email that health workers and mental health support are already being offered to affected residents.
“For Pond Inlet residents: please know that the whole territory is with you,” said Akeagok. “You are not alone. We will walk with you through this tragedy and support your healing in the next days and weeks.”
