Iran threats in UK ‘significantly increased’: intelligence watchdog – World

A parliamentary committee of the United Kingdom blamed Iran for at least 15 attempts to kill or kidnap people based in British since 2022, saying that Iran’s threat had “increased significantly.”

London’s response has focused too much on “crisis management,” said the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament, with concerns about Iran’s nuclear program that dominates his attention too much.

Tehran quickly issued a “categorical rejection of unfounded, politically motivated and hostile accusations.”

The committee’s statements were “unfounded, irresponsible and reflected from a broader distortion pattern aimed at slandering the legitimate regional and national interests of Iran,” said his London embassy.

The report occurs after an alarm in Britain in the alleged Iranian orientation of dissidents, media organizations and journalists in the United Kingdom, including accusations of physical attacks.

Iran in March became the first country to be placed at an improved level of the foreign influence registration scheme, whose objective is to promote the national security of Great Britain against the undercover foreign influences.

It requires that all people working within the country for Iran, their intelligence services or the revolutionary guard register in a new list or facial prison.

“Iran raises a broad, persistent and unpredictable threat to the interests of the United Kingdom, the nationals of the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom,” said Kevan Jones, president of the Watchdog committee, in the conclusions of the report.

“Iran has a high appetite due to risk when an offensive activity is performed and its intelligence services are fiercely recursing with significant areas of asymmetric force.”

Jones said he reinforced this through power groups, “including criminal networks, militant organizations and terrorists, and private cyber actors” to allow denial.

‘Provided and capable’

The report of his committee said that while the activity of the United Kingdom of Iran “seems to be less strategic and on a smaller scale than Russia and China,” “should not be underestimated.”

The physical threat raised had “significantly increased” in rhythm and volume, and focused acutely on dissidents and other opponents of the regime, “as well as Jewish and Israelis interests in the United Kingdom, he said.

“Iranian intelligence services have shown that they are willing and capable, often through third -party agents, to try the murder within the United Kingdom and kidnap from the United Kingdom,” the report said.

“There have been at least 15 assassination or kidnapping attempts against British citizens or individuals based in the United Kingdom since the beginning of 2022”.

Similarly, the Minister of Security, Dan Jarvis, said in March that the MI5 domestic intelligence service of Great Britain had had 20 plots backed by Iran “presenting potentially lethal threats to British citizens and the residents of the United Kingdom.”

The Surveillance Committee took evidence for two years from August 2021 for its report, a period that saw Tehran involved in a plot to kill two based in London. Iran International Television anchors.

In March last year, one of the Persian store journalists was stabbed outside his home in London. Two Romanian men have been accused in relation to the attack and extradition of the United Kingdom to be judged.

The London Metropolitan Police anti -terrorism unit directed the investigation. Iran’s position in the United Kingdom has said that Tehran authorities “deny any link” to the incident.
