A Jet Delta experienced motor problems in what was supposed to be a transatlantic flight and landed on an island in the middle of the ocean, where almost 300 travelers and the crew had to spend the night, authorities said Thursday.
Flight 127 left Madrid on Sunday, destined for John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, when he had to “divert Lajes, Azores (TER) after the indication of a mechanical problem with an engine”, according to a statement from the airline.
The Airbus A330 had 282 clients and 13 crew members on board, Delta said.
The passengers and the crew “were defined by stairs in ter” and “were accommodated during the night in hotels in the area and provided meals,” added the airline.
They were taken from the island in the Azores archipelago of Portugal on a new plane on Monday.
“The flight landed safely and we sincerely apologize to our clients for their experience and delay in their trips,” Delta said.
