Ford says U.S. tariffs could put 500,000 Ontario jobs at risk

Ford offers limited details on possible support plan

The prime minister was asked how he would get money flowing to those affected by the tariffs, potentially something like the Canada Emergency Response Benefit that many used during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford offered few firm details.

“We’ll determine that when we see the tariffs hit us,” he said.

Ford emphasized that he would prefer to work with the United States, but feels Ontario’s manufacturing sector is something Trump wants to hinder.

“We are the ones who have the target on our backs,” he said.
