The Olympic wild boar star, Neeraj Chopra, headed what was announced as the world -class inaugural field competition on Saturday, maintaining at the height of its goal of raising domestic talent while also left with another gold medal.
Chopra, who won the gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and silver in the 2024 Paris Games, triumphed with a launch of 86.18 meters in the classic event Javelin Neeraj Chopra of 12 athletes.
It ended in front of the former world champion Julius Yego (Silver) and Rumesh Pathirage (Bronze) by Sri Lanka.
“The most important objective of the competition was to raise Indian athletes along with the internationals. We obtained the best javelin pitchers for this competition,” Chopra told reporters after winning the competition.
The event attracted more than 14,500 spectators, a figure that delighted Chopra, which has long defended greater public support for athletics events.
“We really wanted people to come and see athletics,” said Chopra, who has only increased interest in athletics in India and has more than nine million Instagram followers.
“I always ask people to come to the stadiums to encourage athletes while working very hard.
“Track and Field is one of the most difficult sporting events. I ask people to come to see nationals too … because our sport can only grow when people will come and see us.”
The event had three rounds with six attempts per participant, reducing the field to eight after the initial round of three releases.
Among the five Indian competitors, three advanced to the second round, including Chopra, exceed international athletes such as former Olympic champion Thomas Rohler and Martin Konecny of the Czech Republic.
“We have done very well in sport. They (Indian athletes) were very happy to get a platform to play with the world champions,” said the 27 -year -old.
“We also plan to add more events to this competition in the future, which will help Indian athletes.”
Among the Indian athletes, apart from Chopra, Asian athletics championships, Silver Yadav medalist worked well, registering his best 82.33m launch in the third attempt.
“Sachin could have had a better performance, but his ankle was twisted in his opening launch. In general, it was good. Luckily, they will do it well in the future. They are juniors and have time in their hand, so they will surely do better,” Chopra said.
