New York – Nissan is removing more than 480,000 of its vehicles in the United States and Canada due to possible manufacturing defects that could cause engine failure.
The retirement covers certain rogues from Nissan between 2021 and 2024 years model and high 2019-2020, as well as a series of infiniti qx50s 2019-2022 and 2022 Infiniti Qx55s sold under the luxury brand of the manufacturer, according to Nissan and documents published by the National Highway thermal Safety Administration of the United States this week this week.
The affected vehicles have specific “VC-Turbo” engines that can have manufacturing defects in their bearings, says the NHTSA recovery report. This can cause engine damage and possibly lead to engine failure while driving, the regulator warns, increasing the risks of shock.
Motor engine failures “are not typically snapshot and tend to progress over time,” says the NHTSA recovery report. That means that effective conductors can see multiple warning signals to take into account, including abnormal noises or malfunction indicator lights.
In the United States, 443,899 vehicles are covered in this retirement, according to NHTSA documents. And in Canada, 37,837 are affected, a Nissan spokesman confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday.
As a remedy, the notes of the NHSTA recovery report, Nissan and Infiniti dealers will inspect the motor’s pan of these removed cars now, and repair or replace the engine if necessary. The withdrawal covers vehicles with 3-cylinder VC-cylinders of 1.5l or 4 cylinders. In a statement sent by email, Nissan said that he began this withdrawal as part of his “continuous commitment to customer safety.” And at the end of August, the company added, the notification letters will be sent by mail to the affected owners “with instructions to take their vehicle to a Nissan dealer or an Infiniti retailer for inspection and repair if necessary.”
