Rogers closes deal with BCE to become majority owner of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment


Rogers Communications Inc. has closed its agreement to buy the participation of 37.5 percent of the ECB Inc. in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment to become the majority owner of the company.

Rogers now has a 75 percent participation in the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC.

The $ 4.7 billion agreement closed as of Tuesday after receiving the necessary regulatory and league approvals.

Rogers executive president Tony Staffieri described MLSE as one of the most prestigious sports and entertainment organizations in the world.

The acquisition grows the sports portfolio of the company that already included the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Center and Sportsnet.

Earlier this year, Rogers signed a new 12-year agreement and $ 11 billion with the National Hockey League for National Media Rights for NHL games until 2037-2038. The agreement begins after the end of its current 12 -year agreement.
