The German police said Thursday that they had killed an Afghan man in a shot after he used a knife to attack the officers who tried to arrest him, seriously injuring one of them.
The incident occurred in the southern city of Wangen when two officers tried to stop the 27 -year -old man at his home to take him to comply with an assault prison sentence.
“In the course of the operation, the man suddenly took out a knife and attacked the officers without prior notice,” police and prosecutors said in a joint statement. “As a result of the attack, police officers fired several shots.”
The Afghan died in the place despite the efforts to resurrect it, they said. An officer was seriously injured after being stabbed several times, but was not in a potentially deadly condition.
The authorities have launched an investigation into the use of a firearm by the police.
Several serious attacks in Germany were carried out in recent times, some for migrants, including knife attacks and cars rights, feeding a heated debate about immigration.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who took power in May, launched an offensive against irregular immigration, which includes rejecting most undocumented migrants on the borders of Germany.
