The average rental price in Montreal has increased almost 71 percent since 2019, according to a rental report published by Statistics Canada on Wednesday.
Since 2019, requesting the rent in the second largest city in the country has grown from $ 1,130 to $ 1,930 in the first quarter of 2025, the data agency said in its first quarterly rental statistics report.
In another part of Quebec, the cities of Drummondville and Sherbrooke, which had the lowest average requested rentals earlier this year, saw the greatest increase in the average rental rentals of rents for rents for two bedroom apartments from the first quarter of 2019.
The report is based on requesting rentals to illustrate the latest market trends, because “the possible tenants generally face higher rentals compared to long -term tenants” whose rentals reflect previous leases, according to the report.
In the rest of Canada, the average asking for a two -bedroom apartment for rent was the highest in Vancouver, where the figure was $ 3,170 in the first quarter of 2025. It was followed by Toronto ($ 2,690), Victoria ($ 2,680) and Ottawa ($ 2,490).
Montreal occupies the 17th place on that list, according to Statistics Canada.
