Punjab is expected to receive 25 percent more monsoon rains this year, the general director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Irfan Ali Kathia said Wednesday.
Separately, Karachi is expected to receive rain on June 27 (Friday), said the department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD), which potentially ends a continuous wave of extreme heat and wet weather.
The PMD has already predicted Monzonian rain throughout the country from Wednesday, June 25. The rains of the monsoon fall throughout the region from June to September, offering a breath of summer heat and are crucial to replenish water supplies.
The rains of the monsoon have begun in Punjab and the first spell will continue until July 1, the PDMA said in a statement, adding that the rains with strong winds and thunderstorms are predicted in most of the districts of the province.
The Help Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has instructed the commissioners and commissioners attached throughout the province to remain alert. He said that all relevant departments, including 1122 and WASA rescue, are on alert.
The PDMA said that rains with strong winds in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Atock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujarat, Jhelum and Gujranwala are predicted. It is expected that Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Nareowal, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha and Mianwali receive rain.
The rain is predicted in southern Punjab, including fine, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar from June 26 to 28.
The general director of PDMA has issued an alert to the district administrations about the instructions of the main minister. “It is predicted that monsoon rains will have 25 percent more this year,” he said.
“An alert has been issued to the Department of Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government and Livestock,” he added.
“Citizens are requested to take precautionary measures in extreme climatic conditions, remain in safe places during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary trips.” He said that tourists should plan their trip according to climatic conditions.
He warned about the risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous areas due to heavy rains. Citizens must remain in safe places to protect themselves from rays and call the PDMA 1129 help line in case of emergency.
Rain is expected in Karachi
In a related development, the PMD has issued a three -day weather forecast for the Karachi division that predicts isolated rain and the storm electric on Friday night.
The weather will remain partially cloudy, hot and humid, today with the maximum temperature between 34-36 degrees Celsius and the humidity level at 72 % in the morning.
For tomorrow, the climate in the city has been predicted as partially cloudy and humid, with possibilities of isolated and drizzle light rain. The maximum temperature will remain between 35-37 degrees Celsius and humidity levels of 70-80pc.
On Friday, the Met office has predicted a warm and humid climate with isolated rainfall and electric storm at night. The maximum temperature will remain between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius with a humidity level between 70-80 percent in the morning with southwest winds blowing.
According to the Met Office, “the Monzón currents are penetrating the upper and central parts of the country and they are likely to intensify even more.
“A west wave is moving towards the upper parts of the country and it is likely to become more active for tomorrow (Thursday).”
Under its influence, the storm of dust and rain with Thundershower is expected to be in the districts of Tharparker, Uumerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta and Dadu.
It added that rainfall with thunderstorm is Likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Dadu, Nosherofero, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Tharparker, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Alla Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin and Division Karachi on June 27 with occasional gaps.
