NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday pointed guns at the Aam Aadmi Party, accusing it of committing liquor scam which led to enormous loss of income to the state
Citing the leaked pages of the CAG reportBJP said the excise policy pushed by the AAP-led Delhi government led to a loss of over Rs 2,026 crore in the state exchequer.
During a press conference, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, “In the financial year 2025, a liquor scam took place which resulted in a shortfall of Rs 2,026 crore in the exchequer. Remember, the Aam Aadmi Party promised build schools, but instead, liquor stores were opened. They talked about cleanliness but ended up in liquor; they talked about good government but turned to alcohol. This ten-year journey is full of scams and sins. in prison, including the deputy prime minister and the prime minister, is unprecedented in post-independence India. The need for their release is crucial.”
“During the COVID crisis in Delhi, when there was shortage of oxygen and facilities, the common man suffered while the Aam Aadmi Party was busy weaving the liquor scam. Liquor shops that replaced schools were opened by a minister involved in the scam ., not a Minister of Education,” he added.
Thakur termed former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal as the kingpin of the alleged scam and said the exice policies were not brought before the assembly for ratification.
“If there is a kingpin of the liquor scam, it is Arvind Kejriwal. If anyone caused a deficit of crores of rupees in 2026, it is Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party. The excise rules were not brought before the assembly for its ratification. These important findings of the CAG are not of any political party, but of an institution that ensures accountability and governance,” Thakur said.
“If the LG asked to present the C&A reports in the assembly, what forced CM Atishi to hide the sins of the Aam Aadmi Party and not present the report? Be it the Sheesh Mahal or the liquor scam, the money earned from this is mentioned here.” he added.
When asked about the BJP’s allegations, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, “Where is the report? The BJP itself keeps saying that no CAG report has been submitted.”
Meanwhile, BJP national president JP Nadda also attacked Kejriwal and said that the AAP is “intoxicated by power and full of misrule”.
In a social media post about of being eliminated”. and punished for their misdeeds.”
“CAG report on ‘Liquorgate’ exposes intentional ‘failures’ of ArvindKejriwal and AamAadmiParty in policy implementation. Loss of Rs 2026 Cr to exchequer,” he added.
According to a report by India Today, leaked pages of the CAG report said that the former Delhi chief minister left aside rules and regulations while drafting the controversial excise policy.
The ‘leaked’ CAG report said the Delhi government committed serious violations like lack of transparency in pricing, violations in issuance and renewal of licences, failure to penalize violators, failure to seek approval from the LG, Cabinet or the Assembly.
The exchequer lost around Rs 890 crore as the AAP government did not re-tender the surrendered liquor retail licenses, the CAG report noted.
The government lost an additional Rs 941 crore due to exemptions that had to be given to zonal licensees, the report said.
Elections for the 70 Assembly seats will be held on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8. In the current House, the AAP has 62 legislators and the BJP has 8.
