The bad body of a young man was found on Saturday at the Stone Mountain Park in Georgia, authorities said.
The Georgia Research Office is helping local authorities investigate the discovery, said spokeswoman Nelly Miles. The spokesman for the Department of Public Security of Stone Mountain, John Bankhead, said that an autopsy of the Dekalb County Forensic Office was scheduled for Monday.
A hiker met the body and informed the authorities around 8:18 am on Saturday, Bankhead said on the phone. He described the location of the discovery as the side of the mountain in front of its path to walk about 100 or more yards of a tower for its Skyride summit, a Swiss cable car line on the top.
Bankhead said the location is not remote but rarely walks. “I walk here all the time and I didn’t know I was there,” he said.
The spokesman told the NBC Wxia affiliate in Atlanta: “It is very strange, peculiar, no one with which I have spoken that has worked here for years has seen something like that in the park.”
He said Saturday night that the authorities have a possible identity for man, but that they have not verified it. Personal belongings, including a vehicle parked in the area, took the investigators to the possible name, he said.
The authorities told WXIA that the fire associated with the body was also a focus for fire investigators of the Dekalb County Fire Department.
The park includes attractions as a complex next to the Lake and is led by a state authority and a fun parks management contractor.
He has brought manifestations and divided opinions about what the park describes as the “largest relief sculpture in the world”: a representation of confederate figures Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. The first part of the sculpture was completed in 1924 and the last in 1972.
The mountain is about 20 miles east of Atlanta.
