Over 890 kidnapping, 152 rape cases registered in capital: police – Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: More than 900 people, including women, were kidnapped and 152 sexually assaulted or abused in the capital in 2024.

A police officer told him Sunrise that the police recorded at least 891 cases of kidnapping and 152 cases of rape or unnatural crimes during the year. He said that among the kidnapping victims were 483 girls (mostly teenagers), 306 men and boys and 150 women. Of the total 891 incidents of kidnapping, 267 were committed within Soan area limits, 214 in Saddar area, 204 in rural area, 127 in city and 79 in industrial area.

Five of the cases were registered under section 365-A of the PPC (kidnapping or abduction for the purpose of extortion of property) in which four men and two women were kidnapped for ransom.

Additionally, 413 cases were registered under section 365B (kidnapping, kidnapping or inducing a woman to force her into marriage, etc.) in which 413 girls were the victims. There were also 249 cases of Article 365 (kidnapping or kidnapping with intent to secretly and unlawfully confine a person) in which 242 men and 25 women were kidnapped.

Likewise, 60 cases were registered under article 364-A (kidnapping or abduction of a person under 14 years of age) in which 44 men and 18 women were victims. Additionally, seven cases were registered under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), while eight cases were registered under section 364 (kidnapping or abduction to murder) after seven men and one woman were abducted.

Similarly, 150 cases of 496-A (instigating, carrying away or detaining a woman with criminal intent) were related to the kidnapping of 145 married women. Further, four cases were registered under section 496 (marriage ceremony fraudulently performed without legal marriage) in which four married women were the victims, while one married woman was kidnapped and the case was registered under section 496B ( fornication).

The police also recorded 152 cases in which 152 people, including 77 girls and six women, were sexually assaulted. Of the total 51 rape incidents, 51 were recorded in Soan area, 34 in Saddar and rural area, 18 in city and 15 in industrial zone area.

There were 133 incidents of rape (one recorded under section 375, 25 under section 275A, 105 under section 376, one under section 376A and one under section 376C). Of the total, 25 were incidents of gang rape and four were committed at gunpoint in which 69 girls and six women were the victims. Additionally, 53 men/boys were sexually assaulted.

There were also 23 incidents of crimes against nature in which eight girls and 13 boys were victims.

In one of the rape cases registered at Margalla police station, investigation officers, along with other police officers and a forensic doctor from Pims, tampered with and destroyed evidence by changing blood samples of a rape accused. In this regard, the Margalla police opened a case in December against seven people, including three police officers, the MLO and a Pims employee, in response to a complaint filed by the victim, after having been found guilty in an investigation .

Additionally, in one of the cases, a police officer kidnapped two minors, detained them, and sexually assaulted them in September. A case was registered at the Margalla police station in the matter.
