Ontario Premier Doug Ford was uninjured after an OPP vehicle he was traveling in was involved in a collision on Highway 401 today.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt confirmed to CTV News Toronto that the collision in question occurred around 12:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Brock Road in Pickering.
Speaking to reporters at Queen’s Park, Ford said the vehicle he was traveling in was “hit on its side” after leaving the Darlington nuclear generating station, where he had held a press conference to unveil a new energy partnership with USA.
“Oh yeah, we were leaving OPG, driving down the highway and the next thing you know, out of nowhere, the car was hit on its side and that’s all I can say,” he said.
“But we were going straight and the next thing we knew they hit us, they just hit us. I’m fine, this head is like limestone. “He’s as hard as a rock.”
Ford went on to say that the driver who crashed into the vehicle he was riding in “ended up on the other side of the road.”
“It was bad. “I just pray that he is okay,” he said.
A spokesperson for Ford’s office has said the premier, staff and OPP officers traveling in the vehicle with him were unharmed.
The spokesman said the driver of the other vehicle is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
