Senator Amy Klobuchar, D-minn., Said Sunday that the Democratic Party would have been “better attended by a primary” in 2024, since she reflected on Joe Biden suspending her re-election campaign last year and supporting Kamala Harris a few months before the elections.
“You know, everything we see in a rearview mirror after losing an choice. Yes, a primary would have served us better. But we are where we are,” Klobuchar told “Meet The Press” of NBC News.
She added: “I am not interested in going back in time. I am interested in moving forward” and said she was focused on “helping the American people” under a Trump administration.
Klobuchar also faced questions about whether Harris’s loss against Trump was a sign that women cannot win presidential elections.
“I hope not,” Klobuchar told the “Meet The Press” Kristen Welker moderator when asked if the 2024 election means that Democrats should not nominate a woman for the president.
The senator said that women have successfully directed other great nations, adding: “And he has also seen women in the United States, incredible mayors, incredible governors. I looked at the Senate, for the Democrats in the last elections, three of the four races where we beat the presidential ticket were women who run. In Michigan, women running, in Nevada, women who go, in Wisconsin.”
“I know it’s not easy to run as a woman,” Klobuchar continued. “If it were, we could play the game ‘choose your woman favorite president’.”
The senator also dodged a question about whether he would rule out to run again for president.
“I am focused on my work at this time,” she replied. “I am third in the leadership in the Senate, and we have a lot to do, and that means ensuring that people have their medical, their social security and assume these Trump rates that are hurting the US people and our economy.”
“I want a better America, and I don’t think that’s how we are going to get there with this president,” added the senator.
He ran for the president for the first time in 2020, competing against more than a dozen other Democrats for the nomination of the party, but retired in March of that year, before the super Tuesday, the largest election day in the primary calendar.
After leaving, Klobuchar supported Biden, who finally won the Democratic Nomination and the Presidency.
If Klobuchar decides to run for the Democratic nomination in 2028, it may be able to face some of his former enemies of the 2020 career, since other Democrats are also expected to, including former Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg and Senator Cory Booker, Dn.J.
Other names often floated as possible contenders for the 2028 Democratic nomination include the governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer; The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz; The governor of California Gavin Newsom; The governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear; PENSILVANIA Governor Josh Shapiro; The governor of Maryland Wes Moore; Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut; Rep. RO Khanna de California; and the representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.
