Trump set to announce the 2027 NFL draft will be in Washington — possibly on the National Mall

President Donald Trump is expected to announce an agreement for Washington DC on Monday to organize the NFL 2027 Draft, said a person familiar with the plans to NBC News. The goal is for the event to take place in the National Mall.

Axios was the first to inform the news. The NFL declined to comment.

The announcement comes a few days after the owner of the commanders Josh Harris and the mayor of DC Muriel Bowser became public with plans to return to the district and build a new stadium after 27 years in Maryland.

The NFL draft is an annual selection of the best university football players of individual teams. To be eligible, players must have been out of high school for at least three years.

From 1965 to 2014, the Draft took place in New York City, but since then it has rotated different host cities. More than 600,000 people were in the place in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In April for the most recent three -day event.

Trump, who once owned a team of the United States Soccer League and aspired (but failed) to own a NFL franchise, followed the 2025 draft from afar. He arrived at social networks to criticize the owners of the NFL for not taking the field of Campo de Colorado Shedeur Sanders in the first round.

“What about NFL owners are stupid?” Trump wrote in a publication about Truth Social. “Deion Sanders was a great university football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He is also a very good coach, streetwise and intelligent! Therefore, Shedeur, his son of Marshal Field, has phenomenal genes and is ready for greatness.

It was expected that Sanders, son of the member of the NFL Hall of Fame, Deion Sanders, was a superior choice, but fell to the fifth round before being taken by the Cleveland Browns.
