Sheriff says Elway golf cart incident appears to be a ‘tragic accident’


The California sheriff whose office is investigating the death of John Elway agent after an incident of the Golf cart said Friday that the deadly fall seems to be an accident.

It was reported that Elway, one of the best field marshal in the history of the NFL, was driving the golf cart on Saturday night in the community of the Palm Springs area of ​​La Quinta when his agent, Jeffrey Sperbeck, fell and then died.

The Riverside County Sheriff, Chad Bianco, said Friday that his office is not over with the investigation, “but until now it seems to be a tragic accident.”

Sperbeck, 62, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was declared dead on Wednesday, said the Sheriff’s office.

A source familiar with the details of the incident confirmed to the NBC Affiliate Kusa de Denver that Elway, a member of the Hall of Fame and twice winner of the Super Bowl, drove the cart.

Elway said Wednesday that he was devastated by the loss of his agent and close friend.

Elway’s lawyer Harvey Steinberg said in a statement on Friday that “this has been a terrible moment for all involved and our hearts continue with the Sperbeck family.”

“Research has confirmed what we already knew: this was a tragic accident and sometimes things happen in life that we will never understand,” said Steinberg.
