An employee of the Pakistan Navy was killed while another was injured in the Karachi Baldia on Tuesday after a 10 -wheeled trailer hit them, police said.
The city has recently witnessed an increase in traffic accidents, especially that they involve heavy vehicles, including Dumpers and water oil tankers, which killed almost 500 people and wounded 4,879 in 2024, according to hospital data.
Talking with Dawn.com Today, the Captain of the Police Superintendent (SSP) of Keamari (retired) Faizan Ali said: “A marine employee died in the accident, while another was injured when a 10 -wheel truck hit them.”
He added that while the driver of the vehicle managed to flee from the site of the incident, the vehicle had been taken under police custody.
SSP Ali said a first information report (FIR) will be recorded when a plaintiff arrives at the police, otherwise, “we will register it on behalf of the State through a police officer.”
Another official, Asad Zaid of the Moachko Police, said Ashfaq Ali, 35, and Sohail Ahmed, 34, were employees of the Pakistan Navy.
“They were riding a motorcycle when a 10 -wheel towing hit them in Rais Goth near the Jamia Farooqia Seminary,” said the official. “They suffered critical injuries and were transferred to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Karachi Hospital, where doctors spoke dead Ashfaq.”
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Edhi Foundation said a 25 -year -old woman died when a truck overturned today at the Quetta Darbar hotel. “The body was transferred to a private hospital,” said the statement.
In compliance with the continuous efforts of the provincial government to control the threat of accidents in Karachi, the city administration extended the complete prohibition imposed on heavy vehicles in the city during another two months.
A total of nine dumpers and water oil tankers were burned in angry mobs earlier this month, near the main road, which led Chowrangi of 4 k after a heavy vehicle hit a bicycle rider, hurting it in the area of northern Karachi.
An older man was killed earlier this month after being hit by a water oil tanker, police officers and rescue said.
