‘Indus Waters Treaty crucial for regional stability’ – Newspaper

Islamabad: The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, emphasized on Monday that the implementation of the Indo Water Treaty was crucial for regional stability, promising that Pakistan would take all the necessary measures to guarantee its full application.

“The treaty is essential for regional stability and its holiness must be preserved,” he said while talking at a high -level meeting convened for strategy Pakistan’s response to India’s suspension of the decades.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarrar, the Attorney General Mansoor Awan, senior officials, technical experts and former foreign relations secretaries.

On Monday, to give condemned the measure of India as a “unilateral and illegal” action that contravenes international law, established norms of interstate relationships and the provisions of the treaty. He warned that India’s attempts to “assemble water” represented a serious threat to the peace and stability of the region.

“The waters of the Indo River system remain a lifeguard for the 240 million people of Pakistan,” he said, underlining the strategic and humanitarian importance of preserving the treaty.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguard his legitimate part of the water under the treaty and promised to continue advocating his full implementation to protect the safety of the country’s water and the well -being of his people.
