Cleveland – Jarren Duran has found a lot of support from his teammates from Boston’s Red Sox and others outside baseball since he revealed in a Netflix documentary who tried to take his life three years ago.
However, its opening has also exposed it to the hecklers.
Duran said that a fan in the first row on Sunday near the bench of the Red Sox in Cleveland said “something inappropriate” for him after the left gardener of the star flew in the seventh entry of a 13-3 victory over the Guardians.
Duran stayed in the upper pass of the bench and looked at the fan while developing the entrance. The fan tried to run around the hall, but was caught by the security and taken from the stadium.
“Fans have just said something inappropriate. I am happy that security would handle it and that the referees have aware him and they took care of him,” Duran said.
After the game, the Guardians published a statement apologizing to the red socks and lasts. The team said that he has identified the fan and is working with Major League Baseball in the next steps.
Duran said it was the first time he was upset by a fan about his suicide attempt and mental health struggles from the Netflix series “The Clubhouse: A Year with the red sox” was released on April 8.
“When you open yourself, you also open the enemies. But I have a good support staff around me, teammates, coaches. There were fans who supported me, so that was incredible,” he said.
Boston’s manager, Alex Cora, was in the opposite corner of the Red Sox bench, but praised security for how the incident was handled.
Cora was even more proud of Duran’s moderation. Duran was suspended by two games last season when he directed a homophobic insult to a fan of Fenway Park when the fan shouted who Duran needed a tennis racket to hit.
“There is a two -way street. That is something I said last year. We made an error last year and learned from it. We grew up, you know, as an individual and as a group,” Cora said.
The incident moistened what had been a solid game and series for Duran. It was 4 by 6 with an RBI and had at least three hits in consecutive games for the second time in his career.
