Activist David Hogg triggered a fire storm among the Democrats last week when he said that his political action committee would finance an effort of $ 20 million to challenge the “ineffective” headlines in the primary.
Hogg is vice president of the National Democratic Committee, and his comments reverge through the circles of the party, which caused a multitude of angry Democrats to complain, even DNC officials, that he should not put their thumb on the scale as a committee official.
Since last week, Hogg has appeared in almost all news and digital outputs exhibitions, advocating a kind of party restoration, not only because he lost the White House to Donald Trump, but also because, he said, he lost faith among the voters.
Now the party is dealing with what to do with him.
At 25, Hogg has become a disruptive potential for a part that still tries to find his way to follow after a bitter defeat in November. Since the defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris, the party has struggled to find its balance against a republican triumph in Washington and is still looking for a leader and a message.
On Thursday, Hogg is expected to be a topic of discussion about a scheduled call with DNC officials and the media. It is not clear if it will be on the call.
“We are implementing historical investments in state parties. And I’m sure chair [Ken] Martin will discuss the reforms he is pressing and ran. One of whom is our party and our officers being neutral in the primary, “said Jane Kleeb, Vice President of DNC and president of the State Democratic Committees Association.
Kleeb said consecrated DNC neutrality was something that progressive senator Bernie Sanders, I-VT. “And many other Democrats throughout the ideological spectrum have repeatedly asked us that we encode in our statutes.”
Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at his high school in Parkland, Florida, and now a national activist against violence is advocating what he calls ineffective candidates of solid blue districts. He wants to mark the beginning of fresh blood and, in general, the younger candidates as part of a new effort of his PAC, the leaders we deserve.
“There are older people who are great, there are young people who suck and vice versa. And I am trying to explain to people that this is not an ax. We are not only saying: ‘Fuck them all, we run against everyone,” said Hogg. “We are trying to be a scalpel here. And it is not alone, it is not about being out with the old and with the new. It is about being out with the ineffective and with the effective.”
HOGG often points to the loss of land of the Democrats with the voters. Last month, a CNN survey found that the Democrats reached a low approval of the voters of 29%. A Harvard Youth Survey this week found that Congress Democrats had an approval index of 23% among young voters, a 19 -point drop since 2017.
Hogg has not hesitated to return the blow to the incoming vitriol, including the sliding of some sacred cows in the Democratic Party, including veteran strategist James Carville, who last week called him “twerp.” Hogg has dismissed many of the criticism, pointing out the presidential loss as evidence that perhaps a new approach should be welcome.
When Scripps asked Hogg about Carville’s insult, he replied that Carville, who made a name as a key strategist for Bill Clinton campaign in 1992, had not won an election since before Hogg was born.
HOGG argues that the consequences on his proposal demonstrate his points. Internal Hubbub is a sign of a part that needs a shake, and an effort to impose a requirement of neutrality to the DNC statutes illustrates that it is not there now, and therefore it has not gone against the rules that dictate their duties, he said.
“It is certainly a possibility, I’m sure,” Hogg told NBC News on Wednesday before news arose that DNC would discuss neutrality on Thursday. “But that reaches the point that I am saying how this is not a rape of the statutes.”
“What I see here is that I am not violating the statutes, and there is a precedent for the vice presidents to be involved in the primaries previously,” said Hogg, arguing that the former vice presidents have backed the headlines in the past.
Representative Rost Khanna, Democrat of California, has expressed a strong support for Hogg, even in X, where he recently said that Hogg was doing “incredible job. He is supporting all Democrats and Democrats for state representatives, while giving new candidates the opportunity to run in safe seats where we need to change. Democrats should hug a new generation of leadership and competence!”
Another member of the DNC, Labor leader Randi Weingarten, has also been Franco on Hogg’s intention to challenge the headlines in safe areas.
“Support David’s efforts,” said Weingarten in a text message on Wednesday.
Hogg said that since all the attention last week, he has had news of hundreds of possible candidates who are interested in running. And he has seen an increase in donations, although he did not specify quantities.
Carville says that the contempt of Hogg’s democratic brand is exaggerated, saying that the rank and file of the party are not happy with the direction of the last campaign.
“Of course, people don’t like the Democratic party, because we lost an election. I don’t like the Democratic party, and I am a Democrat, because I don’t like parties that lose elections,” Carville said.
Although he and Hogg have gone and come, mainly on television, Carville said they probably align on many issues. However, Carville said that for the entire Hogg talk, he would be impressed if Hogg’s efforts won traction in the battlefield areas, such as Virginia.
