President Donald Trump plans to celebrate a demonstration in Michigan to mark his 100th day in office, the White House Secretary, Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday.
“President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will meet at Macomb County to hold the first 100 days!” Leavitt said in X.
The trip will be Trump’s first important demonstration since its inauguration in January and its first visit to the battlefield state since Kamala Harris defeated little to win Michigan in November.
Michigan was among the battlefield states that Trump visited more during the 2024 electoral cycle, sample two dozen visits to the state, at least three of which were in Macomb County.
Macomb County is located in the southeast of the state, a Detroit stone shot.
He won the County of Republicans, defeating Harris for two digits.
Trump’s visit to Michigan will come weeks after meeting with the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, after his decision this month of implementing tariffs in dozens of nations, many of which were reduced.
Whitmer had planned to meet Trump in private to discuss tariffs, manufacturing and other Michigan problems.
On the other hand, the governor was taken to the Oval office for a press event, during which Trump signed an executive order that ordered the Department of Justice to investigate the officials who served in his first administration and called his false statements that the 2020 elections were stolen.
The photos showed Whitmer uncomfortable against a door and covering their faces with a folder while the cameras rolled during the event.
“The governor was surprised that they took her to the Oval office during the press conference of President Trump without any notice of the issue. His presence is not support of the actions taken or statements made in that event,” said a Whitmer spokesman after the Oval office event.
It is not clear if Whitmer plans to attend Trump’s demonstration or meet him while he is in Michigan. His office did not respond to the request for comments on Wednesday night.
Trump during the Oval office event told Whitmer that he planned to work with the Democrats to guarantee the base of the Selfridge Air Force, which is in Macomb County, remains “open, strong and thriving.”
Before his meeting with Trump, Whitmer delivered a speech in Washington asking for a “consistent national strategy” to stimulate manufacturing, criticizing Trump’s tariff policies, while discovering a common land with the president with respect to the declared objective of import sanctions.
“I understand the motivation behind the rates, and I can tell him that this is where President Trump and I agree. We need to do more things in the United States: more cars and fried potatoes, more steel and ships. We need fair trade,” he said.
Whitmer in his speech also suggested that Trump’s continuous tariffs on all imported vehicles and plan to implement tariffs on foreign highways would disproportionately affect Michigan residents, noting that 20% of the state’s economy is linked to the automotive industry.
“We are already seeing the impacts. Automobile companies are storing pieces and dismissing workers. Suppliers face higher costs and delay expansions. The concessionaires will be forced to increase prices of up to $ 15,000 in the middle of slowdown sales. And given that each automatic work supports three others in the community, the impact will be considered by small businesses in all Michigan,” Whitmer said.
Before his visit to Macomb, Trump will travel to Rome for Pope Francis’s funeral on Saturday.
