Waukegan, Ill. – Witnesses of the mass shooting of 2022 in a parade on July 4 in a suburb of Chicago emotionally revived the massacre in the audience of the gunman’s judgment on Wednesday, despite the fact that Robert “Bobby” E. Crimto III did not show his face in the court.
Position, 24 years old, declared himself guilty last month to 69 positions, including 21 murder positions, for the shooting that killed seven people and wounded almost 50 more in a parade on July 4, 2022 to about 30 miles outside Chicago.
He faces life without probation, since Illinois has no capital punishment.
The more than 10 survivors, relatives of the victims, the first to respond and the witnesses of the shooting that are expected to make statements of impact of the victims were denied their opportunity to confront Crima after the prosecutor of the state of Lake County, Eric Rinehart, told the court that he declined to attend his sentence and choose to remain in jail.
Lake County Judge, Victoria Rossetti, declared that the defendant had been informed that the sentence would proceed with or without him in previous courts.
Dana Ruder Ring, a mother of Highland Park, was one of the first to make a statement for the court, remembering how she helped a small child to a safe place when Crimeo opened fire.
Crimto opened fire from a roof building in streets full of people at 10:14 am on the day of the shooting, authorities said.
In chaos, Ring said he met a woman and a girl, both covered with blood, while the woman gave the baby and said: “The blood is not ours, the baby is not mine.”
Ring said he wrapped the boy in a blanket and finally gathered him with his family.
The boy “was covered with blood” and “a shoe was missing,” he recalled.
“I was in mom mode,” while she took care of him, Ring told the court.
The people in the Lake County Court Chamber took deep sighs, cleaned their eyes and covered their mouth while the prosecutors showed photos and videos of that horrible summer day.
