Iran believes that it is possible to reach an agreement on its nuclear program with the United States while Washington is realistic, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Friday on the eve of a second round of conversations with the Trump administration.
“If they demonstrate seriousness of intention and do not make unrealistic demands, it is possible to reach agreements,” Araqchi said at a press conference in Moscow after conversations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Iran had noticed the seriousness of the United States during a first round of conversations about the agreement, which took place in Oman last week, Araqchi said. The second round is scheduled for Saturday in Rome.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has threatened to attack Iran if he does not agree on an agreement with the United States on his nuclear program, which Iran says he is peaceful, but the West says he is destined to build an atomic bomb.
Lavrov said Russia was “ready to help, mediate and play any role that is beneficial for Iran and the United States.”
Moscow has played a role in Iran’s nuclear negotiations in the past as a member of the UN Security Council that pushes veto and signed a previous agreement that Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018.
Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, sent Araqchi to Moscow with a letter to President Vladimir Putin to inform Kremlin about negotiations.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, said Friday that the US administration is looking for a peaceful solution with Iran, but will never tolerate the country to develop a nuclear weapon.
